Nebraska Ranches

Nebraska Guest RanchesLarge scale cattle ranching began in Nebraska shortly after the end of the Civil War. In the late 1860s Texas cattlemen began driving large herds of Longhorn cattle to the vast grazing lands of Nebraska. Longhorn were lean and sturdy and able to withstand the long drive north. Around the turn of the century Nebraska cattle ranchers began to cross breed the longhorns with Hereford bulls from England to improve beef production. Today cattle ranching in Nebraska is a thriving part of the states economy. Some of these working ranches extend their hospitality to guests who really want to experience the cowboy way of life.
